G. Gowan, forename unknown, was believed to have been born in Southampton, Hampshire, England, in 1883. It was stated that he lived at 459, Beavers Hill,
Southampton, Hampshire; however, no such address has been found!
He engaged as a waiter in the Stewards' Department on board the Lusitania at New York, on the 30th April 1915, at a monthly rate of £4-5s.-0d. (£4.25p.). It proved to be a fateful move for him as he was killed exactly one week later, when she was sunk.
His body was never recovered and identified after the disaster, and as a consequence, he is commemorated on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London. He was aged 32 years.
Nothing more is known about this seaman.
