Biography
Martin Welsh was born in Mayo, County Mayo, Ireland, in 1887.
He engaged as a trimmer in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania at Liverpool on 13th April 1915 at a monthly wage of £6-0s-0d., £1-0s-0d of which was advanced to him, when he engaged.
Little else is known about him or his service with the Mercantile Marine, other than that he engaged as a trimmer in the Engineering Department on board the
Lusitania and was killed when she was sunk. He was aged 28 years.
As his body was not recovered and identified afterwards, he is commemorated on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London.
