Edward Walter Ross was born in Stepney, London, on 5 January 1880, the son of Albert and Jane Ross.
He enlisted in the Oxford Light Infantry in 1898, serving in South Africa during the Boer War, and spending a total of 12 years in the colours before being honourable discharged with a pension in 1910.
In May 1915 he lived at 214 Royal Mint Road, London.
He was engaged as a fireman in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania at New York on 30 April 1915 just in time for her final voyage home. His monthly rate of pay was £6-0s.-0d (£6) per month.
He survived the sinking and nothing further about his life is known.
