Biography
Jeremiah Sweeney was born in 1892, the son of Patrick and Ellen Sweeney. The family home was at Cloontubrid, Turlough, Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland.
He served as a fireman in the Engineering Department on board the Lusitania and he was killed when she was sunk. He was aged 23 years.
His body was not recovered and identified afterwards, so he is commemorated on the Mercantile Marine Memorial at Tower Hill, London.
